Let the Body Speak

December 2, 2022 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

MAGMA is hosting a fundraiser to benefit Ukrainian dancers by showing videos from the project ‘Let the Body Speak,’ started by dance artists for the benefit of dance artists, not just financially but also to provide a platform for processing and expression during the time of war.

“The human body is a certain “archive” that impressions of each of the events that happen to a human being during its lifetime are stored in. Having this scientifically proven idea as a base, we decided to create a video archive of the works, movement practices, and discussions of Ukrainian choreographers and dancers during the war.” – Anton Ovchinnikov, the author of the idea of the project “Let the body speak”

Ticket/donations are $25-100* PURCHASE HERE

96% of the  ticket price will go directly to the organization. Refreshments will be served at the event, with wine donated by Wilson Daniels Luxury Wines, and we will host a pop-up from Ukraine-Gloucester business Detali. Compost service courtesy of Black Earth Compost.  *Even if you can’t attend the in-person event, your donation is appreciated! We have ticket tiers of $10-25 for donation-only options, available at checkout above – click “purchase here”

The “Let the Body Speak” project aims to:

– offer the Ukrainian choreographers and dancers, who continue working, an online platform for showing and saving their works
– distribute the collected materials and knowledge about the Ukrainian dance community among the national and international audiences
– foreground a set of issues and public discussion around the topic “Contemporary dance art during the war”
– motivate artists to find new tools of expression through physicality
