DESCRIPTION:Folk Week 2026 with the Henry Acker Trio \nAn evening of Manouche\, also known as Gypsy Jazz – virtuosic and highly expressive music that originated in 1930’s France. \nGET TIX \nHenry Acker is a young powerhouse jazz guitarist who performs both in the style of Django Reinhardt as well as in the traditional jazz style. A child prodigy who began playing at age 8 and performing professionally at age 9\, his talent and abilities have developed into nothing short of astonishing. \nHenry has already shared the stage with jazz greats Bucky Pizzarelli\, Frank Vignola\, Julian Lage\, Bireli Lagrene and Vic Juris as well as Gypsy Jazz legends Samson Schmitt\, Mozes Rosenberg\, Adrien Moignard and Joscho Stephan. He is the winner of the 2017 Djangofest North West Saga Award and a five time winner of the Downbeat Magazine Student Award for jazz guitar soloist. \nBased In Boston\, MA\, he also dazzles audiences at Jazz Festivals across the United States and Europe. He is currently a member of violin virtuoso Jason Anick’s Rhythm Future Quartet. He also performs with many of today’s top musicians. It gives younger dancers a chance to burn off energy\, learn the core figures\, and build confidence with accessible instruction. \nWe encourage families to stay for the regular dance that follows! Younger children can put their new skills into practice during the early sets of the main evening\, dance in tandem with a parent\, or simply relax and enjoy the live music. Whether your family stays for one set of the main dance or the whole night\, you are welcome to make the evening your own. \nChildren & Families at Our Contra Dance \nWe love having children and families as part of our contra dance community! Nurturing young enthusiasm for live music\, movement\, and tradition is at the heart of what we do\, and kids are always welcome to join in the fun. \nTo keep our events enjoyable and safe for everyone\, we ask for your help with a few basic safety guidelines when children are not on the dance floor: \n\nParticipate in the dances: Children’s readiness to manage dance structure varies\, so we rely on parental judgement rather than fixed age limits. Young dancers thrive in the main sets when they can comfortably follow caller instructions\, sustain focus for a full dance\, and maintain spatial awareness around fast-moving adults. Dancing in tandem alongside an adult is also an option.\nKeep the floor clear during sets: Because contra dancing involves fast-moving lines\, unexpected turns\, and backing up without looking\, active dancers cannot easily dodge someone darting across the room. Please ensure children refrain from running around the hall or playing between the lines while a dance is in progress to prevent trips and collisions.\nSupervise off-floor play: For their safety\, children should remain with an adult or in designated non-dancing areas away from the movement of the floor.
