SUMMARY:Mobilize
DESCRIPTION:Mobilize\nA moving meditation building into a full-on expansive freestyle dance jam with Afro-American/Cuban/Jamaican\, salsa-reggae-funk tracks and live performance by DJ-pianist-vocalist Klokwīze with inspired movement prompts by boogie master Carey Mak. \nTIX $15 BUY NOW \nWe start the night with a circular walking meditation to a dematerialized ambient DJ track with live stream-of-consciousness piano\, slowly heating the body\, building into an atmospheric hip-hop trance jam with live vocals\, leading to a simple group-step to ancient Afro-electric tracks bringing us in contact with the source that unites. Then it’s a dance throw down.  Anything could happen: From Prince to Celia Cruz to Beres Hammond to Fela Kuti to D’angelo to Sade…always soul-body expanding tracks from artists known and lesser known\, both old and new\, mixed and remixed. Next you might find yourself syncing with fellow dancers in a lively-up-yourself line dance. And finally\, the flow down\, returning to our circle\, slowly melting into shavasana\, to decelerating deconstructed decolonized ethereal tracks with live hypnagogic piano. \nLeave your inhibitions at the door\, bring your yoga mat and get ready to MŌBILĪZE! \nMatt Jenson\, a.k.a (DJ) Klokwīze\, is a professor of piano at Berklee College of Music where he also teaches a class/ensemble on Bob Marley. While his musical foundations are with jazz and blues\, his deepest musical loves are with Afro-Cuban styles and reggae. He leads his own groups (Combo Sabroso\, Mix Up Mix Up\, the Liquid Revolution) and has worked with too many to list here\, but most recently he has been composing\, arranging\, recording and touring internationally with the renowned jazz-fusion reggae band Groundation. The common denominator for all of Matt’s artistic pursuits is to bring music that heals\, breaks down division\, speaks truth to power and infuses sonic beauty into life. He loves a great dance party\, and his experimentations combining live performance with a DJ deck electrify the dance floor. \nBorn feet first and forever first on the dance floor\, Carey Mak loves to roll up the carpet\, turn down the lights\, crank the music and get her groove on. She has instigated parties\, produced performances\, organized happenings and ignited interactive events in skanky lofts\, under highways\, surrounded by art in galleries\, spread out around outdoor parks and ponds\, and lit up stages big and small. Her career spans from performing with prominent dance companies (Snappy\, Prometheus\, Batuke do Norte\, Sun Ho Kim)\, to guest performing with major artists (Bobby McFerrin\, Sara Rudner\, Reggie Wilson\, David Parker)\, to working with start-ups on the environmental forefront and in technology (Harvard Green Campus Initiative\, YouthStream Media)\, and to designing dynamic\, integrated curricula (Winsor School\, Cambridge School of Weston\, Harvard\, Babson\, BU\, Tufts). Carey Mac\, a.k.a. Carey McKinley’s choreography has been produced at UNC-Chapel Hill\, Harvard School of Design\, Bard College\, UW-Milwaukee\, Earthdance\, Somerville Arts Council and at local schools and studios. Her philosophy centers empowerment\, integrity\, connection and integration\, and her classroom/studio is a container for contagious courage.

SUMMARY:Osteophonie: a pedagogy of listening
DESCRIPTION:Osteophonie: a pedagogy of listening\nA Workshop in Vocal Resonance\nWith Françoise Lombard\nSaturday\, March 18\, 2023\, 1 – 4 pm \nAt: MAGMA 11 Pleasant St Suite 64\, Gloucester\, MA 01930\nCost: $55.00\, $50 for seniors and students \nTo Register\, contact Dawn Pratson\, at dalcrozephilly@gmail.com \nOsteophonie\, or the Art of Listening\, develops listening skills by using the voice. This approach is based on the natural laws of vocal resonance: the vibration of the voice in the skeleton makes the body resonate like a cello. The body is our first music instrument! The integration of the whole body in the act of listening offers a substantial support to the musician’s ear and\, more generally\, a grounding and a freedom of expression to anyone interested in the world of sound and communication. \nFrançoise Lombard is a musician and a teacher of both Eurhythmics and Osteophonie. Having gained the Diplôme of the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze and graduated from the Geneva Conservatoire (piano\, solfege\, harmony)\, she began to train teachers of Eurhythmics in Bienne (Switzerland). She then undertook training in “Osteophonie” (the Art of Listening\, François Louche) which she teaches to musicians\, teachers and therapists in Europe and Quebec. Françoise Lombard is a member of the Dalcroze Canada faculty and a visiting professor at various Dalcroze centers in the United States and Europe. She lives in Montreal and divides her professional activities between Eurhythmics\, Osteophonie and composition. \nAppropriate protocol for health and safety will be maintained \n

Having this scientifically proven idea as a base\, we decided to create a video archive of the works\, movement practices\, and discussions of Ukrainian choreographers and dancers during the war.” – Anton Ovchinnikov\, the author of the idea of the project “Let the body speak” \nTicket/donations are $25-100* PURCHASE HERE \n96% of the  ticket price will go directly to the organization. Refreshments will be served at the event\, with wine donated by Wilson Daniels Luxury Wines\, and we will host a pop-up from Ukraine-Gloucester business Detali. Compost service courtesy of Black Earth Compost.  *Even if you can’t attend the in-person event\, your donation is appreciated! We have ticket tiers of $10-25 for donation-only options\, available at checkout above – click “purchase here” \n\nThe “Let the Body Speak” project aims to: \n– offer the Ukrainian choreographers and dancers\, who continue working\, an online platform for showing and saving their works\n– distribute the collected materials and knowledge about the Ukrainian dance community among the national and international audiences\n– foreground a set of issues and public discussion around the topic “Contemporary dance art during the war”\n– motivate artists to find new tools of expression through physicality
