DESCRIPTION:Canvas – Sarah Rose / Insider Ballroom – Holly Stone & J. Michael Winward\nTICKETS $20 suggested donation    BUY NOW\nsliding scale pricing available at the door day of show \n\n\n\nCanvas is a trio dance performance exploring ideas for spatial design and movement quality from Dotty Kyle’s (Sarah’s grandma’s) oil paintings of New England flora. The movement is paired with close up projections of the paintings which are displayed on the dancers’ bodies. Original sound score by Ross Daniel.\n\n\n\n\n\nInsider Ballroom\nHaving worked for each of the major American franchised schools\, Holly and Michael are now recovering salespeople\, seeking an alternative means of practice. Insider Ballroom: A Free Introductory Lesson combines professional ballroom dancing of the “American Smooth” category with personal storytelling from the performers: Queer perspectives from their time spent inside this decidedly hetero-industry.\n\n\n\n\n\nBios: \n\nSarah Rose is a multidisciplinary artist with a focus on movement and performance. Her current research focuses on the intersection of movement habit and the modern dance canon. She holds a BA in Classics from Princeton University (2014) and an MFA in Choreography and Performance from Florida State University (2019).\n—\nHelen Greider is a Queens based contemporary freelance dancer. Since moving to New York she has performed with Tabula Rasa Dance Theatre\, AFFEKT Dance Company\, Go.Co\, and choreographer/performer Sarah Rose. Helen is dedicated to exploring and pushing her boundaries of the physical challenge of dance and also in how artistic values impact life experiences and vice versa.\n—\nRoss Daniel is a Georgia born artist based in New York with an M.F.A. in Dance from Florida State University and a B.A. in theatre from Georgia College & State University. Ross is a 2019-2020 New Directions Choreography Lab Fellow at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and a recent participant of the “MANCC Forward Dialogues” at the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography where he developed a dance collective with choreographer Sarah Rose entitled DanielRose Projects. Ross has performed in Then She Fell with Third Rail Company\, with 277 Dance Projects\, Alexis Zacarello (Center for Performance Research A.I.R\,) and Katelyn Halpern and Dancers\, on tour with Urban Bush Women (2019 Winter Tour\,) and on tour with Fox and Beggar Theatre\, a contemporary circus company based in Asheville\, North Carolina.\n—\n\nRaised in rural Vermont\, Holly Stone (they/them) creates dance and theater throughout Greater Boston\, and teaches at both Tufts and Boston Universities. As a performer\, Holly has recently danced for Kathy Hassinger\, Jo-Me Dance Theater\, Lowell House Opera\, Tim Glenn\, and with many\, many others from their time in the American Ballroom Dance Industry. Holly has a B.S. in Bioengineering and Neuroscience from Syracuse University and an MFA in Dance from Florida State University.\n—\nJ Michael Winward (he/they) is an interdisciplinary artist: dancer\, storyteller\, organizer: working at the intersection of movement\, memoir\, memory\, and care. Michael is the director of Steps in Time®: an organization that brings social partner dance programs to assisted living & mind care communities\, as well as the lead coordinator of Dancing Queerly: a platform for LGBTQ+ dance & performance artist support. Michael has a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Bennington College\, and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Art from Goddard College.\n\n—\nphoto credit: Elizabeth Mertz

SUMMARY:North Atlantic Dance Theatre
DESCRIPTION:North Atlantic Dance Theatre presents 1:2 An Intimate Abstraction. \nBuy Tickets! \n\n\n\nOne piece of music: Two distinguished works. \nJoin North Atlantic Dance Theatre’s Black box Ballet series for an evening of exploration to see how one piece of music can inspire two different choreographic gems. \nThe use of two choreographers to create works on the same piece of music offers audiences a brief glimpse into the mind of each choreographer showcasing the choices\, themes\, concepts each one has been inspired to create through the music. \nDelve into the minds of our choreographers and composer with a Q & A after the show! \nMeet our Artists: \nBeau Kenyon is a composer of multidisciplinary projects that expand the accessibility of new music through installations\, site-specific work\, and education outreach. He has collaborated with creative professionals at Urbanity Dance\, Boston Conservatory at Berklee\, Parsons School of Design\, and M.I.T. Co-Lab Radio. He most recently served as the Boston Public Library’s first Composer-in-Residence\, premiering new multidisciplinary work\, creating writing and sound curriculum for teens\, and a performing arts discussion group for senior citizens. \nOur Choreographers: \nColleen Edwards is a dancer with North Atlantic Dance Theatre who has been broadening her skills as a choreographer. Ms. Edwards has presented many choreographic pieces on main stages around the country including two full-length ballets. Her newest piece is a study of time and history affecting two separate people. The choice to accept ones past and move past or to cling to it therefore forfeiting their control. \nMargaret Wiss is interested in the interaction between dance and science. As a choreographer and artist she wishes to reveal the invisible motion of physical forces in the world. Attracted to dynamic movement\, which investigates the perception of dance as a scientific sport\, she explores the interactions of dance and the environment  inside and outside the body.\n\n\n\nMore info  at http://www.nadt.dance \n  \n
